Silt, Sludge & Liquid Waste Removal

Nationwide solutions, tailored for you

Some issues can’t be solved with a pump and a few IBCs. When silt starts choking drainage, sludge starts stealing capacity, or you need fast liquid waste removal from tanks and pits, a vacuum tanker gives you a clean, controlled way to shift it.

We run operated vacuum tankers as part of our industrial services fleet, supporting sites across the UK. From planned maintenance to urgent clean-ups, we bring the equipment, the crew and the compliant waste route to get your system back to normal.

Where Do You Need Silt Removal?

Silt is usually the first thing to settle out, grit, sand and fines that drop into chambers and traps as water slows down. If it’s left to build, flow rates fall and flooding risk increases.

We’re typically called in for silt removal at:

  • Catchpits, gullies and road drainage chambers
  • Silt traps and settlement points
  • Yard drains and low spots around hardstanding
  • Wet wells, pump sumps and culverts
  • Interceptors where grit collects ahead of oily layers

A single tanker visit can clear the deposit, restore working volume and reduce repeat blockages.

When Is Sludge Removal Required?

Sludge is heavier and more compacted than silt. It forms in pits, tanks and lagoons when solids settle and bind together, often mixed with oils, organic residues or process solids. Over time, it becomes difficult, messy and time-consuming to remove without specialist kit.

Our sludge removal support commonly includes:

  • Pits, sumps and pump chambers
  • Balance tanks and process vessels
  • Settlement systems, lagoons and holding ponds
  • Bunds and containment areas after wash-down
  • Treatment infrastructure with settled solids

If your system is losing capacity or you’re seeing rising levels and persistent odours, sludge is often the reason.

What Does Liquid Waste Removal Cover?

Not every job is thick or settled. Sometimes you simply need liquids removed quickly and safely to keep production moving or prevent overflow. Liquid waste can include trade effluent, wash-down water, contaminated runoff, leachate and mixed slurries.

We carry out liquid waste removal from:

  • Holding tanks and storage vessels
  • Interceptors and separators
  • Wash-down areas and production drains
  • Lagoons, pits and sumps
  • Floodwater or emergency spillage situations

Waste is lifted by vacuum into a sealed tanker for secure transport to an authorised outlet.

Need Silt Or Sludge Removed?

If silt is restricting flow, sludge is taking up capacity, or liquids are building up in tanks, pits or lagoons, we can help with a practical tanker-led waste management solution.

Get in touch to discuss:

  • One-off silt removal from traps, chambers and sumps
  • Sludge removal from pits, tanks and lagoons
  • Liquid waste removal for effluent, runoff and wash-down
  • Integrated support with jetting, drainage and tank cleaning

Tell us at Telcoss what’s building up and where it’s sitting, and we’ll recommend the right approach to keep your site clean, safe and productive.

Can You Empty And Clean Interceptors?

Interceptors are designed to capture pollutants before they enter drainage networks, but they need regular emptying. As chambers fill, silt settles at the bottom, oily layers build, and sludge forms in low points and baffles.

We support interceptor emptying and cleaning with:

• Full contents removal using vacuum tankers
• Lifting settled silt and heavy residues from chambers
• Optional jetting around inlet/outlet pipework where needed
• Compliant transport, disposal and duty-of-care paperwork

It’s a practical way to maintain performance and reduce the risk of overflows and pollution incidents.

What Waste Types Can We Remove?

Our tanker teams handle a wide range of wet and semi-solid materials found on industrial sites, including:

• Grit, sand and fine silt deposits
• Dense sludge and settled sediments
• Oily water mixtures and interceptor contents
• Process effluent carrying suspended solids
• Wash-down liquids with residues and detergents
• Lagoon and settlement waste where solids have compacted

If you can’t keep it on site and it’s affecting performance, we can usually remove it.

Which Sites Use These Services Most?

We support silt removal, sludge removal and liquid waste removal for many sectors, including:

• Manufacturing and process industries
• Utilities, power and critical infrastructure
• Food and drink production sites
• Ports, terminals and coastal facilities
• Construction yards and logistics depots
• Energy, fuel and waste-to-energy operations

We’re often brought in during shutdowns, pre-inspection clean-downs, routine maintenance windows and urgent capacity recovery.

Why Choose Telcoss For Tanker Work?

We deploy tanker units suited to gritty silt, compacted sludge and bulk liquids, with the reach and capacity to clear assets efficiently.
Industrial site experience
Our teams work daily around live plant, drainage assets and critical infrastructure, so safety and delivery are built into the job.
Less disruption, faster turnaround
Vacuum removal reduces manual handling, repeated vehicle movements and downtime, especially on busy sites with tight access.
Compliance made simple
We manage the waste route properly and provide duty-of-care documentation to support audits and inspections.

I’ve spent the last few weeks on something quite familiar to me; Managing tank inspections. Today, we finished ahead of schedule with the result we had expected, no lost time and most of all, no incidents. I would like to thank the guys at Telcoss Ltd for an exceptional service in cleaning and prepping the tank.
